With printer ink costing at least twice as much as premium champagne, you’ll undoubtedly want to squeeze every drop of ink out of your cartridge and get every drop’s worth. 1. Print Head Cleaning

Sometimes, you may think you’re running low on ink when you start getting streaky prints, but it may only be down to the fact that your print head needs cleaning. There are a few methods to fix this but the simplest way is to run your printer’s print head cleaning feature for removal of dried ink in the print head. This typically occurs when your printer hasn’t been used for awhile.

When your prints start to look faded, it’s not always because your ink cartridges are running empty. Sometimes it could be due to the fact that some of the ink has dried up and is clogging the nozzles. You can try flipping the cartridge upside down and then shake it gently to redistribute the ink.

If it doesn’t work by shaking the cartridge, you can put a piece of Scotch tape over these contacts to trick the sensors in the system. Often, this will also trick the system into allowing you to finish up your printing job. In this case, you’d be able to run the printer until the cartridge is truly empty.

If neither the shaking nor the tape trick works, there’s still another option to try. Leave the Scotch tape over the contacts, but run a hair dryer over the cartridge until it’s warm to the touch. While it’s still heated up, put it back into the printer and restart the job. Blowing the nozzles with hot air may loosen up the leftover ink and enable the rest of the ink to flow once again.

Similar to the hair dryer trick, the paper towel trick also aims to clear out dried ink from the nozzles to enable the rest of the ink to come out.

Important Note:
You should be aware that when your ink cartridge is truly empty. When it’s indeed empty, be sure to change it immediately. If you continue to print on a depleted cartridge, it may cause your print head to melt and thus damage your printer. It always pays to have a spare cartridge on hand when your ink cartridges are truly empty.
